Additional Costs to Consider
Taxes and VAT
An 18% VAT is applied to most services—this includes park fees, accommodation, guided safaris, and even some meals. It’s often included in package rates but always confirm.
Guided Safari Costs
If you’re on an organized safari, guide fees are usually built into your package.
For standalone activities like walking safaris, TANAPA ranger fees typically range from USD 20–50 per day.
Transport Costs
Domestic Flights: Round-trip flights between Arusha or Dar es Salaam and the Serengeti (e.g., Seronera Airstrip) cost between USD 300 and USD 600 per person.
Ground Transfers: Overland travel or airstrip pickups (when not included in your package) may cost USD 50 to USD 150 depending on distance.
Private vehicle and guide hire: USD 300–500 per day, depending on the guide’s experience and the vehicle type.
Meals and Drinks
In mid-range or budget lodges, meals may cost USD 30 to USD 100 per day if not included (usually included in the rate).
Luxury lodges usually include all meals, but premium wines and imported spirits may cost extra.
Tipping (Often Overlooked)
Safari Guides: USD 15–30 per person per day
Camp Staff: USD 5–10 per day per guest Tipping is not mandatory, but it’s customary and appreciated (usually the camp has a communal tip box).
